A Word From Jason Mark
Hello and welcome to my world of artistic photojournalism and timeless photography. I began my snapshot approach to photography years ago while taking photos of my travels abroad from Europe to Asia.
I’m a guy who likes to work hard and play harder. I love to talk and I love music. In another life I’d like to believe I could fly. I sing out loud when I’m alone and dance around when I can’t sit still anymore. I want to die knowing that I tried everything once. I love life but I’m never satisfied, time is my one true enemy. It’s ironic how I spend a lot of time thinking about time. Sometimes I just sit and stare, trying to figure out what I want to do next, lost in a world of overwhelment. I like to make up words, like overwhelment. Rules were made to be bent, not broken. Play the game or be played. I contradict myself on a daily basis, but I hold steadfast to my beliefs. I believe in being logical, but a world without passion is boring. I like women. I like to eat. I like to sleep. I like to cuddle, especially on Sunday mornings. Simple pleasures are truly the best. I’m down to earth, sometimes aloof, my wheels always turning. I’m a Leo. I love to walk around the city aimlessly; I feel more than I allow people to see. I’m not your average man. I got juice!
Photojournalism is the art of capturing moments and highlighting details. It freezes a moment in time in the perspective of a watching bystander. In event photojournalism, laughter, emotions and expressions captured are the secret to timeless photos.
My contemporary and artistic touch turns an ordinary photo into a work of art. Enhancing a photograph whether by lighting, composition or color can evoke different emotions and tell a different story. For example, a couple walking under an umbrella on a rainy day. From a bird’s eye view, all you see are pedestrians holding an umbrella. A black and white image from behind make them appear like emotionless. Shot from the front, they could be playful.
As a digital photographer, I am able to capture moments without the limitations of film cameras. There has been a significant increase in photographs with emotion, action and attention to detail. Image collections are 100 times larger and people have never looked better. It’s true!
On the other hand, the candid approach can only go so far with event photography. If I were to wait for a moment to happen, sometimes that moment may never happen and photographers are responsible for creating that story. For example, a stressed bride may forget to give her dad a big hug. Like a producer, a great photographer would remind her to give her father a hug and a kiss to show her appreciation for his love and support. This way, we can fill in the gaps to a story that otherwise would have been missed. The photograph depicts genuine expressions and emotions even though it was slightly directed.
My passion is to be at the right place at the right time to capture the next timeless work of art. I am Jason Mark.
