Stefany and Harold met on Facebook and are getting married in two weeks. Social networking works! Stefany is from the Phili and permanently relocated to unite with her soul mate in Los Angeles. I’ve seen it happen time and time again. We used the following engagement photos to create a guest book that will be displayed at the entrance of their reception on their wedding day.

Amie’s Quinceanera (Sweet 15) Birthday Bash

Amie’s Quinceanera (15th birthday) party was nothing less than a fairy tale. Following her offering to the Virgin Mary and her commitment to God, she hopped into her stretch Hummer and headed to the Los Angeles Design Center. Hands down, this is the perfect venue, truly a hidden gem. I’m going to be honest, I did not feel safe driving around in this area, but once I was through the gates and had a chance to look at the venue, I was blown away with how elaborate the place looked. The brick walls and high ceilings created a modern feel while the decor gave it a classy look. There was a candy table set up for the kids, fancy floral center pieces made with Manzanita trees, silk chair covers, an exotic/tropical cake, open bar, a live Mexican band, an amazing DJ and of course our very own photo booth, just for kicks. To top it off, we took over the upstairs area overlooking the entire venue for the photo booth.

After an incredible tri-tip, salmon and chicken dinner, Amie and her friends put on performance along with a traditional Quinceanera waltz with her father that reminded me of a Disneyland Cinderella show. It was a beautifully choreographed performance starring Princess Amie. Her 15th birthday was just amazing!

Helena’s Quinceanera (15th Birthday Party)

A Quinceanera or Quince is Spanish for “fifteen years” and is a coming of age ceremony held on a girl’s fifteenth birthday, which is the equivalent of the American’s Sweet Sixteen birthday celebration. A Quinceanera ceremony begins in a church as she transitions from being a girl into a young lady. I have noticed that Quinceaneras are often more grand than a wedding. Their dresses can be just as expensive as a wedding dress.

Helena’s Quinceanera held in Baldwin Park and Covina was no exception as over one hundred family members, relatives and friends came to join Helena for her fifteenth birthday party. One of the most important Quinceanera traditions is the father/daughter dance. Following a traditional Catholic ceremony at a church, there was a reception with a waltz performance with her father. Moreover, the guest of honor will wear flat shoes and present the birthday girl elegant, heeled shoes to symbolize a girl becoming a woman. Helena made her presentation of a porcelain doll to her younger sister, symbolizing her last toy, which represents her next phase towards womanhood. Later in the night, Helena surprised her guests with a choreographed dance routine with her friends. The night was full of energy and joy, especially with a DJ to set the atmosphere and an open bar to set the mood.

Kelly and Ronnie got married on the beautiful pacific coast in Laguna Beach, California. It was a short, sweet and simple wedding. Ronnie had mentioned he liked country music. This is the first time I’ve ever seen a first dance with country music. Check out the video I made for them!

A Day With Derrick The Stallion

Preparing for head shots: If you’re an aspiring actor or actress, your headshot is the most important tool that you have. I just wanted to go over a few tips and tricks to prepare for your photo shoot with your photographer for your next headshot. Make sure you your beauty sleep in the night before. Write down the looks and styles you would like to accomplish during the head shot photo shoot. Prepare the outfits you will be wearing and iron your clothes beforehand. Have a lint remover handy.

Colors: If you’re still stumped on what to wear, I recommend bringing colors such as black, red, green, bright blue and pink. Any color that you have been complimented on before would be great.

Men: Men with facial hair should let their facial hair grow out for a rugged look, but also bring a shaver along for a clean look.

Women: Women should also bring along some high heels with straps. Make sure your hair is clean and groom your eyebrows.

I spent a day with Derrick to take some headshots for his acting portfolio. He’s a stunning Asian dude with style taking his acting career to the next level. When Derrick gets famous, he’ll look back and remember his photographer, hopefully. They usually tend to forget the little people like me once they get famous, *sigh*. I love photographing headshots once in a while for a change in pace compared to wedding photography.

I used all natural lighting in this headshot photo shoot and am really happy with the final results. Check it out.

Patrice and Elijah Engaged @ Ma’kai Lounge

Santa Monica Pier Engagement Session

It was a perfect day for Patrice and Elijah’s engagement session at the Santa Monica Pier. They’re not from southern California so it was a treat for them to be out at the pier. The main reason they wanted to take their engagement photos here is because it Ma’kai, a restaurant right by the pier was where Elijah proposed to Patrice. Ma’kai was closed when we were there, but we were able to get some shots in front of the restaurant and underneath the signs.

Before meeting the couple, I received a phone call from Elijah saying they were walking over to the restaurant. I had him hold hands with her and stay close to her so that I could take some paparazzi style shots of them. It wasn’t until they got to the restaurant did they realize i was across the street photographing them.

Throughout the day, we just went on to explore the pier for what it had to offer. One of the highlights of the day was having a street performer serenade Patrice and Elijah. There was also another performer with parrots. We ended the session with some fun with ice cream, yummm…craving ice cream now.

Patrice Covington is a singer/actress from Chesapeake, VA with a long list of musical theater credits. In 2008 she joined Ruben Studdard on a national tour in the cast of Ain’t Misbehavin’, which received a Grammy nomination for Best Musical Show Album in 2009. She is currently playing the famous role of Effie in the Broadway touring production of Dreamgirls.
