Kelly and Ronnie got married on the beautiful pacific coast in Laguna Beach, California. It was a short, sweet and simple wedding. Ronnie had mentioned he liked country music. This is the first time I’ve ever seen a first dance with country music. Check out the video I made for them!

Preparing for head shots: If you’re an aspiring actor or actress, your headshot is the most important tool that you have. I just wanted to go over a few tips and tricks to prepare for your photo shoot with your photographer for your next headshot. Make sure you your beauty sleep in the night before. Write down the looks and styles you would like to accomplish during the head shot photo shoot. Prepare the outfits you will be wearing and iron your clothes beforehand. Have a lint remover handy.

Colors: If you’re still stumped on what to wear, I recommend bringing colors such as black, red, green, bright blue and pink. Any color that you have been complimented on before would be great.

Men: Men with facial hair should let their facial hair grow out for a rugged look, but also bring a shaver along for a clean look.

Women: Women should also bring along some high heels with straps. Make sure your hair is clean and groom your eyebrows.

I spent a day with Derrick to take some headshots for his acting portfolio. He’s a stunning Asian dude with style taking his acting career to the next level. When Derrick gets famous, he’ll look back and remember his photographer, hopefully. They usually tend to forget the little people like me once they get famous, *sigh*. I love photographing headshots once in a while for a change in pace compared to wedding photography.

I used all natural lighting in this headshot photo shoot and am really happy with the final results. Check it out.

    Santa Monica Pier Engagement Session

It was a perfect day for Patrice and Elijah’s engagement session at the Santa Monica Pier. They’re not from southern California so it was a treat for them to be out at the pier. The main reason they wanted to take their engagement photos here is because it Ma’kai, a restaurant right by the pier was where Elijah proposed to Patrice. Ma’kai was closed when we were there, but we were able to get some shots in front of the restaurant and underneath the signs.

Before meeting the couple, I received a phone call from Elijah saying they were walking over to the restaurant. I had him hold hands with her and stay close to her so that I could take some paparazzi style shots of them. It wasn’t until they got to the restaurant did they realize i was across the street photographing them.

Throughout the day, we just went on to explore the pier for what it had to offer. One of the highlights of the day was having a street performer serenade Patrice and Elijah. There was also another performer with parrots. We ended the session with some fun with ice cream, yummm…craving ice cream now.

Patrice Covington is a singer/actress from Chesapeake, VA with a long list of musical theater credits. In 2008 she joined Ruben Studdard on a national tour in the cast of Ain’t Misbehavin’, which received a Grammy nomination for Best Musical Show Album in 2009. She is currently playing the famous role of Effie in the Broadway touring production of Dreamgirls.

I’ll be attending the WPPI 2010 from March 7th – March 10th at The MGM Grant in Las Vegas. I’m excited to see some of the most prominent wedding photographers from around the world speak. I’ll be updating this post each day as I wander through the minds of different photographers. So excited!!

Day 1 (Sunday, March 7th, 2009): I’ve arrived safely and attended a Children’s photography seminar. Andrew Jenkins and Jackie Palmer were the speakers for this workshop. It’s amazing how much patience is required to take a few good photos of children. The child psychology and tricks taught are going to be handy for my future wedding photos with children.

Day 2 (Monday, March 8th, 2009): Jerry Ghionis is one of my favorite photographers of all time. He took us back in time to his work 11 years ago and showed us his Photoshop skills. It was inspiring to see that everyone, even as good as he is started somewhere. His albums were full of collages and montages and an awkward mix of desaturated patches. Now, he has bloomed to become one of the best wedding photographers in the world with his timeless albums which I admire so much.

Jasmine Star, a newly bloomed photographer shared her story of becoming a photographer and how she got to where she is in less than a half of a decade. Her seminar was so popular that she had to hold a makeup class for those who could not attend and filled the room both times. Her story begins with struggling through personal hardships to becoming celebrity in the wedding photography industry, she motivated all of us who are on the same boat.

Day 3 (Tuesday, March 9th, 2009): Andy and Angie Woods from Colorado went over several ways to create an online presence and as much as I already knew, there were a few great things that I could apply right away to brand my photography brand.

Day 4 (Wednesday, March 10th, 2009): I was so burned out from the previous days that I woke up late (8:30am) I had set my alarm to 6:30am but I guess I didn’t hear it. I attended a Dawn Shields’ seminar about building a presence locally through bridal shows and magazines. Dawn is the owner of “Metropolitan Brides” magazine and educated us on promoting ourselves the right way and took us through the minds of a magazine editor.

I’ve made some wonderful friendships that I am very grateful for this week and look forward to maintaining those relationships. This has been the greatest Las Vegas trip ever!

I had the opportunity to photograph Jessica’s headshots for her new website coming soon. BTW, I also photographed her wedding day. So when she asked me to do her headshots for her, I had to do it.

Jill and George are such a lovely couple that I just can’t post enough of their photos online. She’s beautiful, he’s handsome they’re playful and it’s obvious that they are truly in love. The images you are about to see seriously look like they came right out of a movie. They were lucky enough to be able to use the backyard of a house with an amazing garden. It was a mexican themed wedding event with mexican musicians (guitarists and accordion players in uniform) and mexican food (super chicken and beef tacos, enchiladas, rice and beans).

Check out this piece of Mexican art! You can’t get any more authentic Mexican than this. I love how there’s a mini donkey pinata.

Learning the accordion would been a lot more fun, but I got stuck with learning the piano. It’s obviously not nearly as portable as an accordion.

It’s those moments before the bride and groom are about to kiss that give me butterflies in my stomach, but I have to stay focused and make sure can still take a clear photo. My hands were probably sweating profusely as I clenched onto my camera as hard as I could to keep my camera steady.

    Backyard Wedding Photography

After scrounging through his pocket for a minute to find the ring, he finally found it, phew!

    Ring Exchange Wedding Photography

I absolutely love this shot of Jill and George as they gaze into each others’ eyes a second before they enjoy their first kiss as husband and wife.

Here comes mom running towards the newly weds for a big family hug.

Weddings reunite family and friends. There was never a dull moment at this wedding!

    Best Friend Wedding Photography

I caught this photo of George looking at Mom and Jill making her speech while the sun was setting. I believe they call this the Magic Hour in photography.

    Sunset Wedding Photography

Another amazing shot of Jill and George. You can truly see how happy they are, they’ll be able to relive this moment forever.

    Black and White Wedding Photography

I forget how many poems George wrote for Jill, but WOW, it was such a sweet poem. Everyone was literally watery eyed at this moment. George is also a phenomenal speaker, which made this poem even more touching.

    Speech Wedding Photography

Family hugs cant get better than this. The gentleman on the lower right side is actually in a wheelchair, so I had them give each other a great big hug for this shot. You can almost hear the laughter, feel the warmth and the happiness they must be feeling at this moment.

    Ring shot!

I’d say this was a perfect evening for Jill and George as they joined together as husband and wife. They wanted a simple backyard wedding and invited their closest family and friends to join them on their special day. I had a fabulous time photographing them and wish the best for their future.
